Nestled in the heart of Portland’s vibrant NE 42nd Avenue neighborhood, Little Griddle is a breakfast and brunch haven that promises a genuinely comforting and soulful dining experience. Specializing in classic American morning fare with a thoughtful twist, this cozy nook is a favorite for those seeking hearty, carefully crafted dishes served with warmth and genuine hospitality.
The moment you step inside Little Griddle, you’re welcomed by an intimate, inviting atmosphere that feels less like a bustling restaurant and more like a cherished local gathering spot. The limited space enhances the cozy vibe, allowing the kitchen’s aromas and friendly chatter to wrap around you in a familiar embrace. It’s this sense of comfort, paired with attentive service, that makes every visit feel special.
The menu at Little Griddle reads like a love letter to breakfast lovers, balancing indulgence and thoughtful creativity. Signature dishes like the Country Benedict and Bacon Spinach Skillet arrive plated with vibrant colors and bold flavors—the creamy hollandaise sauce perfectly complements tender poached eggs and savory bacon nestled atop fresh spinach. The Shakshuka Skillet is a standout for those craving a savory Mediterranean flair, featuring rich tomato sauce, eggs, and a warm buttermilk biscuit that soaks up every last bite.
Vegetarian options shine here, too. The Veggie Hash and Polenta bowl showcase the kitchen’s talent for layering textures and flavors, such as the curry hash’s mix of avocado, potatoes, bell peppers, and onions simmered in a delicate coconut curry sauce topped with melted Swiss cheese—a dish that feels both comforting and refreshingly unique. Not to be missed are the housemade biscuits, especially the Bacon Egg & Cheese Biscuit, which balances flaky, buttery layers with smoky bacon, sharp cheddar, and a hint of sweet roasted red pepper jam.
Small plates and sides like the house salad with poppyseed vinaigrette and roasted potatoes offer light, fresh complements to the heartier entrees, while the drink menu featuring drip coffee, Bloody Marys, and indulgent Irish coffee rounds out the morning meal perfectly.
Customer feedback speaks volumes about Little Griddle’s consistent excellence. Renata Vela N’s enthusiastic endorsement captures the essence well: every dish feels thoughtfully prepared and packed with flavor, all served with friendly smiles and fair prices. Deedee Chiang’s reflection on revisiting the café after years, noting the persistent cozy ambiance and cheerful crew, underscores the spot’s enduring charm. Longtime visitors like k mueller and Melinda DeMartino highlight how the restaurant’s warmth and quality make it a reliable “go-to” when craving comforting breakfast fare in Portland.
Then there’s Big Frank, whose appreciation for the classic diner-style Truckstop plate—with its satisfying combination of eggs, bacon, roasted potatoes, and biscuits—echoes the sentiment that Little Griddle is a place where traditional flavors meet heartfelt preparation.
In sum, Little Griddle isn’t just a place to eat; it’s a sanctuary for those who savor breakfast as an experience—rich with flavor, wrapped in comfort, and served with genuine kindness. Whether you're an early riser or a weekend bruncher, this neighborhood gem welcomes you with open arms and plates full of joy.
Hey everyone! ANYTHING YOU WOULD EAT HERE is delicious! NO KIDDING! I follow the instinct based on the pictures and it totally worth it! Great service, good price for what they give you, and the team is so nice! You will love it here!
Came here about 8 years ago during my first trip to Portland. I still remember how cozy it was and also busy. I also remember not finishing my plate cuz it was too much food (delicious food). Fast forward to now after moving to the area, it still as cozy as ever. The food is so delicious (I got the polenta bowl). And the crew that works here is as cheerful as I remember, checking in and joking with their diners now and then. While Portland has changed a lot, the best parts about this cozy breakfast spot has remained the same
Our first stop in Portland and it did not disappoint!! Food was delicious and the employees were extremely nice!! Definitely will go again when we next visit Oregon !!
Such a wholesome experience. The staff at Little Griddle welcomes you with open arms and sets the tone for a lovely meal. While the space is limited, it feels cozy rather than crowded. The menu offers a variety of delicious options, and the food tastes thoughtfully made with quality ingredients. This will be my go to breakfast spot whenever I find myself in Portland and craving something comforting, especially when life needs to slow down a bit.
Little Griddle totally hit the spot. I got the French toast, a biscuit on the side, and the Truckstop—and everything was just solid comfort food. The French toast was fluffy and not overly sweet, just how I like it. The biscuit was buttery and legit good on its own (would 100% get it again). And the Truckstop? Classic diner-style plate—eggs, bacon, potatoes, and a biscuit—super satisfying and great portions. The vibe is chill and friendly, and the food came out fast even though they were pretty busy. It’s the kind of place that feels like a neighborhood favorite, and now I get why. Definitely a great spot for a no-fuss, hearty breakfast.
Small dining area so get there a little early and bring an umbrella to stay dry while waiting for seating. The food was really good and fresh, kinda pricy for the serving size but it was good quality. The iced cold brew only came with simple syrup and cream, no heavy cream and it was very lightly sweetened. I liked it, just to warn others though. The biscuit was really fresh and fluffy, buttery and tasty. I’d recommend.
Highly recommend this spot in a really pretty area. For being a small place, the staff was super nice and made us feel accommodated! Grace was amazing and so friendly, huge shoutout to them. They made us yummy iced cold brew lattes! The food was delicious. We got the Bacon and Spinach skillet, the Curry Hash skillet, and the French Toast!
Little Griddle maybe little on space but it isn’t little on anything else. It is big on well made breakfast as well as friendly and professional service. Be prepared to wait a bit but it definitely is worth it. I highly recommend this little establishment.
